Assisted living is a type of residential care for seniors who need assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, and medication management. It offers a combination of housing, personalized support services, and healthcare.

The average hourly rate for home care across California is $36. As with the cost of assisted living, the average range across the state is large. On the low end, in-home care can be found as low as $17/hour; on the high end, in-home care can be as much as $76/hour. 

The main difference is that assisted living have doctors/ nurses on staff generally costing more by charging for everything extra, where residential boarding care homes generally only have caregivers at a static monthly cost unless level of care increases.
